Laws and regulations regarding food-safe packaging materials
Packaging materials for the food industry must comply with strict laws and regulations concerning food safety. The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) checks whether materials can be safely used in contact with food products.
Food-safe packaging must not release harmful substances into products and must not affect the taste, smell, color, or quality of food products. Therefore, packaging materials are extensively tested for safety and suitability for use within food-safe production and logistics processes.
