It is of vital importance to use a septum during product inspection. This is attached to the packaging through which the needle passes, creating a tight seal around the needle. Many products are packaged under a light vacuum; in this case, it is desirable to create a tight seal when taking samples during product inspection. This prevents air from being drawn in when the packaging is punctured, and false values are ruled out.
