The presence of sesame is made visible by means of specific antibodies. Reveal 3-D for Sesame is a unique screening instrument with a 3-line readout: a control line confirms that the method has been performed successfully, and two other lines distinguish non-detectable, low, and high levels of sesame presence.

Analyzing whole sesame seeds presents problems because the seed coat protects the proteins. In this case, grind the product very finely using, for example, a mortar and pestle or a grinder. This test is not suitable for sesame oil and toasted (high heat) sesame.

Cross-reactions have been observed to a very low degree with flaxseed, poppy seeds, green beans, kidney beans, and walnuts. Analysis of acidic or salty products with a low pH value and products containing many thickeners may yield an invalid result.

The procedure
1. Add the extraction buffer to the sample tube.
2. Add 0.25 ml of sample (CIP rinse water or cotton swab) to the sample tube.
3. Apply the cap and shake for one minute.
4. Remove the cap and fill it with liquid from the tube.
5. Immerse the Reveal 3-D instrument in the liquid in the cap.
6. Leave the instrument in it until liquid flows into the test window.
7. Place the device on a flat surface and allow the test to develop for 5 minutes.
