Positive results are indicated by the presence of three lines: a control line, a marker line, and a test line, if the fish protein is present in a range of concentrations with a level lower than 1 ppm. This threshold may vary depending on the matrix tested. The upper detection limit has not been established for specific fish species. Samples containing large amounts of fish protein may result in an invalid test, which is indicated by the absence of the marker line and/or test line.
