This reliable test method utilizes a 'lateral flow device' (LFD), an immunochromatographic method that employs antibodies specific for the detection of coconut protein. Positive results are indicated by the presence of three lines: a control line, a marker line, and a test line, if coconut protein is present in a range of concentrations from a lower level of 2 ppm to a higher level of approximately 1.6 mg/ml coconut protein in a saline solution (0.9% sodium chloride). These thresholds may vary depending on the tested matrix. Samples containing more than 5% coconut may result in an invalid test, which is indicated by the absence of the marker line and/or test line.
