The NEOGEN Petrifilm Select E. coli (SEC) Count Plates are specific for E. coli; only E. coli colonies are visible, with the exception of O157.

NEOGEN Petrifilm Select E. coli (SEC) Plate is a ready-to-use medium. Petrifilm SEC plates can be used for Escherichia coli in the food and beverage industry. Most E. coli strains are thermotolerant and produce beta-glucuronidase, an enzyme that reacts with the BCIG indicator in Petrifilm SEC Plates, thus showing dark green to blue-green colonies. NB: not for detection of E. coli O157. Like most E. coli media, the plate will not specifically indicate whether O157 is present. O157 strains are usually atypical E. coli, such as glucuronidase negative, causing them not to turn blue-green and not be detected on Petrifilm SEC plates.
