Bioavid Sesame Hook Line Sesame Allergen Rapid Test

Sesame seed (Sesamum indicum) is used as a raw or roasted ingredient in many different food products. The allergen can be present as an ingredient or as a contaminant in raw and cooked products. According to Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, sesame and sesame products must be listed on food labels. Similar regulations exist in Canada and Australia, among others.

Food allergy to sesame seeds is an increasingly recognized health burden; symptoms range from allergic eczema to life-threatening anaphylactic reactions. To date, seven different sesame proteins have been identified as allergens (Ses i 1-7). The only effective treatment to protect sensitized patients from allergic symptoms is to strictly avoid sesame-containing food.

Dip Sticks are a user-friendly method and ensure a fast and reliable analysis. Applying the Bioavid Dip Sticks is very simple and can be performed by untrained personnel. Sample preparation
• Surfaces (swabbing): wipe the surface with a cotton swab moistened with PBS and rinse the swab in the reaction vessel.
• Food samples: homogenize the food sample and centrifuge or filter.
• Liquid samples (e.g. CIP water): no preparation.
